    Optigear do one.

This will only pop the bonnet catch (i.e. the same effect of pulling the red lever in the car). You will still have to operate the lever to lift up the bonnet itself. I think this is what you are after?

IIRC fat_rick has fitted the optigear popper to his car. I was rather hoping they would be at Brooklands this year as I was going to have them fit this for me, but they were not in attendance!

There are several ways you can do this.

One is to fit the optigear popper. This is fairly simple (Davros did mine, but I think I'd've got it done myself in no more than two or three times as long ), and works beautifully. The downside is that the optilug (as it's called) is a hundred notes and then some.

A few people have fitted a solution with a small button attached in front of the front grille, that when you press takes a feed from the indicator lead to a solenoid; so you push the button and then push the unlock on the fob. Not as elegant or as simple, but much much cheaper.

Sandman built a brilliant system where you use the normal boot release. If the cabin light's off it pops the back boot as normal, if on the front; so unlock then boot-open pops the front. Genius.

Details of the latter two are on this thread on tr.n. For my own part, I am delighted with the optigear popper, and should have fitted it the moment it became available - for somebody who uses the car every day and the front boot almost every day, it's a fabulous upgrade.

Rick, is there anychance you could advise what sort of stuff (cutting, drilling, wiring/relays/switches etc.) is involved in fitting the optigear unit, as it's probably next on my list...

              Re: remote popping bonnet

I have, and will happily furnish you with, an attempted English translation of the instructions you get with it - it cost me a few hours of my own time and a bottle of rum to a German friend . Of course I forgot to take it to France which is where Paul fitted it...

There is no cutting, drilling, wiring, or any of that. Essentially the process goes like this (not in this order, necessarily):

Attach some wires to an earth point under the bonnet (with a spanner or similar).

Unscrew the bonnet catch. Guide the solenoid into place under it. Mess about with the alignment of the end for a while. (In our case, get quite cross until we realised the length was adjustable!). Refit the catch.

Using a tool supplied, push a wire through a self-sealing gasket into the driver's footwell.

Using one of those screw-in wire tap things, attach said wire to a (identified clearly on a diagram) wire from the loom). Tuck control box under carpet.

              Marvel at your new toy.

I expect if you'd done one before you could probably do it in fifteen minutes.

If you removed it, the only evidence would be the pinholes in the insulation of the wire from the loom and in the gasket.

              HTH!

Apparently having fitted 2 I am now an expert???

You would be advised to obtain an E8 socket drive to undo the specialist bolts that secure the catch plate

I'm 99% it's that size but can't find it to verify it. Got it from Halfords - they are cool about letting you check it's correct.

Some cable ties and pliers would be useful, and 10mm and 13mm socket drives will be required.

The pictures/instructions supplied by optigear are reasonably good
