  • Six Plugs

Why does the Smart have six plugs and they appear to be on different parts of the engine. How does this work?

    Re: Six Plugs

All 6 plugs go into the head, the ones you access from the top are infect going into the back of the head and the ones that are just above the turbo are in the back of the head, because ofnthe angle ofnthe engine it just looks like they go not different bits.....

      Re: Six Plugs

if i recall correctly the plugs fire at the same time which means an efficient burn which equals economy.
where as alfas with twin spark engines fire one plug after the other which means power.

It allows for higher compression ratio and higher levels of boost while avoiding detonation on a 2 valve per cylinder layout which cannot efficiently have a central plug in the manner of a 4 valve motor.

actually, they'r not. the coils got 4 wires, +, - and 2 signal wires.. they fire every other time..

              Why would that be desirable?

put a HT lead tester on both leads and see if they fire at the same time or one after the other. id try it but i dont have a 450/452
