  • Windscreen removal/fitting guide

    Hi,
Does anyone have a guide on how to remove & refit the windscreen on a fortwo? (450, CDi)
My screen leaks and doesnt sit flush with the glass roof, the seal also looks worn. I have got a new seal from smart, but am not sure how to remove the screen etc

    :thanx:

I think you are confused. There is no seal that holds the screen in, that's just a decorative surround.
The windscreen is glued in place the same as the roof.

go speak to an independent car windscreen place and get them to do it for you - it is bonded in and without the proper kit, you are likely to break the screen

        Oh! Didnt realise that
Only ever changed a windscreen on my mini

The screen leaks from the passenger side and doesnt sit flush with the roof at the top!

Its the same both side's, so i thought the seal needed replacing

If an accident were to happen and your windscreen were to become cracked you would only need to pay the excess to get it replaced.....

Yes, i did think about the possibility of having an "accident"
But i figured it would be cheaper for autoglass (or equivelent) to just take the screen off and put it back on properly. Or maybe it won't?

I don't think they will do it...... The screens are so well bonded now they run a high risk of breaking it!

Only needs a tap with a hammer on the edge...

Not that I have ever done it, will do it or am suggesting you do it.....
