  • Heat wraps and paints

    hi all

i was looking at posts regarding tkip pipping pro and cons of steal and silly.

the main point for silly is heat reduction in the pipe.
the main point for steal is no flexing

would it not be better and cheaper to remove the original steal pipe (i have a brabby).
paint it with heat reflective paint.
wrap it with heat wrap or oversized silly hose. then you have the best of both.

none flexing pipe, also cant be influenced by engine temps!

    regards

I suspect you'd get more replies if the post made sense.

        Ah right, gotcha.

        Silicone and steel.

Original pipes in all Roadsters and fortwos are plastic pipes, anything else is aftermarket. I don't believe that heat plays any part in these pipes no matter what it is made of. People go on about the temperature in the engine bay but it's less than the temperature inside the pipes. The pipes are just too short to even bother trying to remove heat from them. The air flow is so quick through the IC pipes that literally nothing you can do to the pipes will bring the air temperature down. Including water jackets etc.

If you are that concerned about air inlet temperature you should look at a chargecooler to replace the intercooler or run some sort of cooling spray bar in front of the IC.
