  • Recycling dump valve

    Hi
Does any one know or has used a recycling dump valve, I would like to try fitting a dump valve but don't like the idea of the whoosh noise. Any ideas

    My idea, don't bother.

Get a stainless steel air filter instead has same effect and no oil in the engine bay.
I reject your reality and substitute my own

      Thanks for reply
I have read so many different looks on dv, I know it would have to be sized to 10mm or less, are they really not worth fitting, I get a pigeon type noise when taking foot of gas, any ideas, all help is is great

      Thanks guys

That's pretty much the only point of fitting a DV to smart, it doesn't do anything else!

Apart from venting the boost air from between the turbo and the throttle body so there is no back charge of pressure that causes the compressor to stall.

Oh, and so the pressure can plateau but still allow the compressor to spin as it was before which decreases the time it takes to re-pressurise the system and spin the turbo up.

...and remove the judder from the spindle that can damage the oil seals.

...and remove the "wastegate noise" which is actually the turbo stalling.

So yeah, DV's do nothing apart from make a noise

Definitely only consider a restricted DV though as a DV designed for other cars can make the effects worse. Plus the restricted DVs are much quieter.

yeah - all the WRC teams fit them because they love the noise on the special stages

                  turbos whistle

the blow off valve/dump valve makes the "chatter chatter chatter" on down change

did you read the bit about standard DV's or just the first 2 lines or the bit about smart specific DV's??

no - but you have to read all of this....

which then links to the smart specific DV one

I'm sure I read something before that said DVs were an entirely pointless mod. Oh well, might have to get round to fitting mine! Am pretty sure if chucked the E-clip last time so have got a spare to hand!

TBH - even just having the noise is worth it!! i loved it.....

on the forfour BRAB though, just a stainless induction kit gives me an awesome "wooooooosh" as i accelerate and a fab "chattttttter" at throttle off
