With the 2 main smart forums getting behind the "voteBrighton" bandwagon, I'd like to air my opinions as to why we shouldn't vote Brighton.
With this year's cancelation of The Smart Festival it seems obvious that smart UK aren't really as into it as smart in Europe.
Maybe they are hoping (or already know as I reckon it's a fix) that they will get SmartTimes 14 so they don't have to bother with the smart festival for 2 years running.
A SmartTimes in the UK would just be The Smart Festival but in a different place with no museum. The same boring side shows, smart basketball, smart egg and spoon thing, a big smart jigsaw etc.
Brighton! Good grief, why? Actually I'll tell you why. Park all the cars along the seafront and we can entertain ourselves.
You know that any newspaper coverage and non smart owners will see smarts + Brighton = 1000 homosexuals displaying their cars.
Although it's handy for us, it's easier for us to leave the island than it is for thousands of Europeans to get over here. Plus being on the South coast, a lot of more northern UK smart owners probably won't bother either. It's different if you are going abroad, it's worth a bit more hassle.
So, this can go one of 2 ways. Forget the "pride" of being chosen to host the show, think of the bigger picture.
If the UK does get SmartTimes 14, there will definitely be no smart festival later in the year at Brooklands so that'd mean 1 big festival in 2014 (and that'll be lesser attended than the Italy smarttimes of 2011) and it'll be in Brighton (ooh, the glamour).
If however, somewhere like France, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark etc, we will have a big UK smart festival and an enormous SmartTimes. 2 festivals instead of 1 plus the 2nd one is abroad so we have an excuse to go on holiday. It's a no brainer.
So I implore you to put national pride aside and vote for something sensible instead. If anyone else knows the other options that can be voted for, perhaps we can decide on 1 decent European venue instead.
