anyway, given the latest probs, could still be glow plugs - sometimes the slamming the bonnet thing resolves the TVA temporarily (but defo wont do anything about the glow plugs) so a good test to carry out

      good luck young lady

Same issue as crazyG had......?? Is that what he pm'd you? The sensor is in a really crappy location behind the engine so it's gonna take some getting at

Is your temp needle going from cold to hot straight away??

£47/HR is a pretty standard labour rate but try and get a fixed cost and not an hourly rate

              Eh?

              That makes perfect sense?

              Erm no it doesn't......................

Why would pressing the pedal alter what that was doing and help it start?

Has to take the biscuit for wierd fault of the month award?

                Re: help -starting the engine

                Yeah it does.....

the faulty sensor is telling the SAM that the engine is hot so it doesn't need the cold star setting/mixture..hence the
starting problem. Once it is started and run for 15 seconds or so it's fine....

pressing the accelerator is what anyone would do if the car was turning over but not firing! Pressing the accelerator changes the fueling but starting may be a coincidence

All makes sense to me really...

                  Re: help -starting the engine

In normal mild outside temperatures, I've never waited for the light to go out, I just turn the key straight away and it starts fine. Even when it's cold, the engine should fire up fairly quickly. You might need to see if the glow plugs are actually working because they don't just 'glow', the get white hot in a few seconds and can eventually fail. My car's done 60k and fine.
