Re: 2004 CDi Forfour 68bhp - a good buy. please?

I've just done an HPI check on the car - all clear, no nasties - but it does show that in 2008 to 2009 it was registered as B18 LEA

Does this registration ring a bell with anyone on here, I wonder?

Picking the car up this Saturday.

Couldn't wait to post a few pics of it - so am using some the current owner took for me.

Sorry they are on ImageShack, but I'm sure you all know to click on the pics for enlargement.

What do you think? Looks a good buy to me - but Saturday will tell - and the weather isn't looking too promising!!

Re: 2004 CDi Forfour 68bhp - a good buy. please?

Well, my epic weekend is over - had to drive up to Bangor in N. Wales to get the Forfour - hell of a way if I didn't like it!!

No such fears - she's a little beauty - well looked after, and everything seems to work as it should - auto box is fine - aircon is cold!!

Only gripe I have is the steering seems quite stiff - at, say, 60 it seems to want to go straight ahead - not to deviate with the steering wheel - just seems strange.

May need to get it looked at - other than that, I'm a very happy bunny!!

Will take some pics when I've finished cleaning it up!!!

              Well it looks lovely

Steering will be stiffer than the skittishness of the fortwo or roadie as you have an engine over the front wheels and I find the power steering firm with good feedback.

Keep us updated with how you are liking it....

              Have you found....

              1. The sliding, folding, tilting rear seat? Handle in cabin and boot...

              2. Cubby hole by drivers right leg for the manual

              3. Fusebox behind the glove box

              4. Lounge concept folding front seats

No n.4 - as yet - but it's on my list "to do"!!!

Have ordered the armrest from Germany - together with a new pair of "SMART" plates for the bottom of the door frames, so will attempt those jobs together!!

I have guides for the armrest fitting if you need but it's quite simple....

JJ - just a couple of questions for you - as it seems it's only you and me on this thread!!

What is the large flatish ABS electronics box under the passengers seat?

Also, looking at my photo of under the bonnet - am I missing an aengine cover - 'cause the brochures show the diesel engine with a large square fitted cover?

Yesterday I fitted the armrest - very nice, but that rear carpet was like wrestling with an anaconda!!

Also did the "Lounge Concept" mod - no trouble there - but the driver's seat headrest seems to lay on the horn button when folded forward - maybe I need to remove it, and then instal it again UNDER the steering wheel, to hold it down?

The footwell mats have been up in the bath for a good pounding, and are looking great now - shampoo'd the rear seat whilst it was out - just the front seats left to do now!!

Will take some more pics of it whaen all completed.

                        excellent stuff................and great pics!

the flat ABS box under the passenger seat will be the subwoofer (does it have a flap that lifts up with a few connectors?)

the carpets on these cars are very thick and have a decent amount of foam backing too - good quality stuff!!

yeah - take the headrests out or push the seat right back before dropping them (did you use my guide?)

if you can get hold of a cdi engine cover (they werent standard) then you have found the holy grail - keep checking ebay and scrap yards!

how are you enjoying the forfour??

Thanks for that - will start a hunt for a cover!!

Been too busy fetling to actually drive it - but thoroughly enjoyed driving it back from Wales - loadsa poke, and very comfortable, except for lack of lumber support on the seat - but have since bought a couple of lumber cushions, so that should improve matters.

WOW - I can't get over these figures!!

I topped up the tank today, just to get an idea of what I used coming back from Wales - and couldn't believe my eyes:-

264 miles - it took 14.74 litres to top off -which is about 3 1/3 gallons - worked out at 81.4mpg !!!

My Fortwo CDI which we went up in only managed about 75mpg !!!
