  • Clever or stupid?

As you all know, a few weeks ago I traded up (note the phrase, traded up) from an astra to a forfour and it took a few trips for me to adjust...
Well 1 tankful of petrol on and it would seem I now consider it a permanent car for a couple of years, perhaps more depending on the following:
I did get it checked out by a mechanic as the cabin Zeppelin noise initially freaked me out, but he gave it the all clear which made a lot happier know g it was safe.
The inside however has not been well loved. Although there are no tears, the backs of the front seats have gauges and scrapes like I've never seen before, and things like gearstick (auto)' door handles, door panels are all looking very worn.
So here's the thing... I want to enjoy the car, but as we all know it's hard to bond when the inside looks so tired. I understand that because of the airbags, seat covers aren't a good idea so I accept that a good scrub will have to do.
For the backs of the from seats and panels etc I was considering vinyl carbon film, perhaps in White, to brighten it up and as a contrast to the black material seats, I was also considering repainting the handles, and pods in White as well
What do you think? Is it an easy job, it certainly fits my budget and accessories seem really hard to come by without spending loads of money
Are the pods easy to remove? would it look rubbish?

Comments as always, are much appreciated

    Re: Clever or stupid?

Hi again - glad the car is giving you some fun but yes, it's always annoying when owners don't know how to look after their cars.

    Are your seat backs plastic?

If so, I would just go to smart/merc and order some new ones. I have part numbers if you need them.

As for interior bits, a few people have either sprayed or wrapped. Wrapping is better at standing up against use better but can be harder to keep adhered if the cabin gets warm.

Painting is good and simple. I sprayed my pod rings in focus st orange and the finish is excellent and probay much simpler to achieve than trying to get a vinyl to adhere to such tight curves.

I have lots of info so just ask

    Lots of options!

      Or try white plasti-dip

But spraying those hard shells will not hide the gouges and I would think vinyl would not stick well to that texture

        Re: Clever or stupid?

Thanks fellas. The more I look, the more I realise how straightforward the design is for these cars, it's amazing. I dont think I can afford new backs for the seats and am looking for 2 things. Firstly trying to make it look less tired, and secondly to look brighter (everything's black) and more personalised for me.
I am pretty sure I will spray the pods, but only after I know what to do with door handles, and other little metal bits in the cabin.
Thanks for the tip about vinyl not sticking to the back of the seats, you were right that gauges won't be hidden anyway, I guess I am looking for a cheap fix without looking cheap. Still worth considering vinyl for door panels though? Or is it really too risky with the heat?
I guess I am a wannabe brabus owner, but alas will have to settle for a 1.3 pulse, but the britness you get from contrasting interior colours is really effective

Shoestring budget with brabus effect ideas would be much appreciated

          Re: Clever or stupid?

It's a difficult one as the door handles will suffer and a vinyl wrap is best....

Have you seen the white 3M di-noc carbon film? Very cool. I've just ordered a 30x40cm sample off eBay for £4.50 delivered to test on my wheels. If used sparingly, that would probably do your pods, door handles and gear surround.

I'm betting the backs are under £20 each. Buy 1 this month and 1 next

          Happy to chat some more
