as they are separately fused and on opposite sides of the car they will be earthed to a different point with separate wiring, for both to go at the same time is extremely unlikely

im going to be blunt here... why didnt you try new bulb(s) first? it would have saved a lot of time.

you say you have had the bulbs out once already to check, why did you not try fit new bulbs then?
