    Re: after market steering wheel

You aren't thinking outside the box.
If you buy an OMP steering wheel boss you can bolt it (with some modification) to the back a almost any steering wheel.
I have fitted an Aston Martin and a Mini Cooper wheel to a smart. The ESP cart fits in the boss and they have airbags. The Cooper wheel even has paddles that were easy to get working.

        Re: after market steering wheel

Is Aston Martin or Mini Cooper wheels cheaper than the Smart wheel or is it just a question of what is available?

Disappointed now, somehow this thread veered back onto the original subject

haha - not sure how it veered off topic ... i think it was all very relevant to the OP

Lamborghini wheels are pretty boring tbh, I looked at loads of wheels.
The Aston wheel is exactly the same as the Brabus V6 wheel but with button shift and a small wooden section (that can be covered).

              cheers for the help

Aston wheel cost me £200 including airbag, Cooper R56 wheel was about £185.

You just need to see what there is and expect to modify it a bit.

I guessing I have to strip my old wheel down, right?

Yes but you can try this method so you don't have to mess about realigning it.

Where? I'd love to see some pics as the one I did see from ace cafe looks great.

Does the lightweight one have an airbag?

I have stripped the old wheel down and got the cartridge out and in the new boss with no stress but can't work out how to get the horn working! Any ideas.

                            Re: after market steering wheel

How does the insurance company know when the airbag light has come on? It could have been on for days before any accident!

ian - the blade is lovely...... take it you'll be fitting a standard wheel for MOT time...

not sure where the insurance company comes into it.....

Found this on the VOSA website
