  • Is Mobil 1 still the best

Hi all the Brabus is getting an oil change and my local garage have said they use 5w 30 oil, in the past I have only used 0w 40 Mobil 1 but I have to say there is a big difference in price is 5w 30 ok or shall I justget some Mobil 1 and give it to them to use?

    Thanks

It's got to be 5w 40 Fully Synth, & I'd go with Mobile 1 over 5w 30 any day of the week. Remember oil is the life blood of an engine, & the Roadies engine is ore highly stressed than most.

5w/30 is fine providing it meets mb229.3 or mb229.5 spec

Mobil1 was never the best oil, it was just the company with the biggest advertising budget.

Thanks all I had it serviced today and after having no problems over the past 3 years with the Mobil1 I decided to get some and get the garage to use it. It cost me 3 times the price and i'm sure the other stuff would have done but if something were to go wrong I would have only blamed the oil even if it had nothing to do with it.

I've spoken about this with a few people in the trade, incl a Mercedes Independent and all say Mobile 1 must always be used in these engines. That's what I will therefore do.

Mercedes,, Independent Mercedes garage and a private service garage I know who says it is best and safest option to keep to the car manufacturers recommendations.

Why not try merc's own oil. It meets all required specifications and is cheap. Last time I visited the dealer it cost less than GBP 30 for 5 litres. DSC03951.JPG

Just fine an oil change using Mobile1 instead of the Shell Helix 5w 40 I was using previously & although subjective she seems smoother with a deeper engine note & more torquey/better pickup? I wouldn't of expected oil to do this but there you go. Although I did get my Mobile1 on a two for one offer (wouldn't of bought otherwise).

Errr... it's £26 for 5 litres in Costco.
It should NOT be 3x the price.

Not everyone has a Costco card and maybe the garage was only charging trade price on the oil he already had

                          I use Nulon 10/40 100% synthetic. Brilliant!

Mobil1 used to advertise with Mercedes F1 so there is a a lot of back scratching going on.
Also remember that Mercedes also recommends that you don't ever change the transmission fluid so take everything they say with a massive handful of salt.

Mercedes and their outlets use Mobil1 for 1 reason. It's the cheapest that they can get because of the deals they made.
If it was the best, all Formula 1 teams would use Mobil1, however, most don't.

Have now been told if Mercedes serviced my car now, they would use Petronas fully synthetic oil which is cheaper than Mobil 1. When you're told Mobil 1 has best cleaning properties and best for Turbo temperatures it's hard to chance using something else. There are many comments on threads suggesting, advising different oils so it's a minefield of opinions, who is right??. We all know what will happen to a Smart engine if incorrectly maintained so it seems safest to go with what is officially recommended rather to "chance" another brand.

Of course they would use Petronas oil now, who is the main sponsor of the Mercedes F1 team?
