  • Roadster high level break light

Bored with replacing the bulbs in the third break light so am going to add an red led strip instead.
Just one question - the original fitting has two set of pins which hold the reflector in place - which set powers the lights?
Also, has anybody tried led headlights? - I've heard varying reports.
    Thanks

Easier fitting LED bulbs in your original high level brake light sockets. I recently bought ten 286 T5 LED bulbs on eBay for £1.97 that came all the way from China with free shipping. They are reasonably bright, no worse than the original bulbs and not blindingly bright either. Have only had them fitted for a few weeks so cannot tell whether they will be long lasting. Bad contact is more likely to be a problem so I took the precaution to clean sockets with electrical contact cleaner that cleans and protects.
Stop lamp was always problem - blown bulbs. LEDs last much longer (50 000 hours) than filament lamps (2000 hours). Pt bottom lamps are LED bulbs for granted but must be made up. I bought it and red LED's for: https://plus.google.com/photos/112827018205146693954/album/6365055288170378513/6365056747093784162

Good and bright LED head light bulbs can be bought but are still far too expensive. Somebody on another forum paid about £300 (threehundredpounds) per bulb. I have fitted LED bulbs in fog lights on my 450 which work fine. Less chance of melting the light fixture which has always been a problem with 450 fogs. Unsure about fogs on the Roadster. Perhaps different design and make.

I just removed the whole brake light, cleaned connections, bent them all in a little to ensure a good contact, sprayed the internals with silicon lub, put it all together with ordinary capless filament bulbs and never since had a problem.

I fitted white LED lamps like Tolsen. They have been in for 3 years now & no problems.

But I must say I'm old school, using my handbrake every time I stop & removing my foot from the brake pedal, therefore not leaving the brake lights on blinding the driver behind, ala the highway code! (Pet hate of mine, grrr).
