Forfour owners bring their arguments to owners of fortwos and Roadsters, but really their beef is with the wider public.
Be honest. When you tell people you have a smart they expect the ''smart car - the funny little 2-seater(s)'' And are disappointed when they see the mainstream 4 seater.
Or when smart is mentioned they are aware of the fortwo and Roadster then ask ''Didn't they make a 4 seater as well?'' all wrapped up in a tone of complete indifference.
It's the general public who define what the smart brand is.
As for the forfour. Why can't you just enjoy the car for what it is? Only a few of you seem to state what it is you like about them and enjoy. The rest...Is it because you wanted the brand more than the car and the public don't give you the recognition you want?
Clearly, 13 pages of this says this is less to about cars and much more about personality, ego, etc...Comment

true - when I tell someone I have a smart, they PICTURE the fortwo but when I tell them about the forfour, they don't then tell me its not a smart! but if i told you i had a dyson hoover.....what would you picture?? probably not the one i have!
AND they defo aren't disappointed - muppet!! because i can give them all a lift and they don't feel like an idiot getting out of it in the car park
The public DO NOT define a brand. Just because 90% of people have no idea what the VX220 is, doesn't mean its not a VX220 (again - you talk total rubbish)
I love enjoy my forfour every day - it out performs every car i have ever owned (over 10). the range is VERY reliable (ask rob) and its very very well specced (like the fortwo only with much more merc stuff)
if we do say how nice our cars are, the only response we get on here is "but its not a smart though"
its defo about ego - fortwo owners ego..... not wanting to accept the forfour into the smart brand
its not the public, its not that we bought a "brand", its because we are part of the smart community and on here (and mainly ONLY on here) we get told its not a smart
i have contributed in numerous fortwo technical threads and still do... i have guides on evilution and now supporting him develop the forfour sections of his site and ALL of it is to benefit the smart community but according to many....i shouldn't even be a part of the community. I may as well own a fiesta and come on here telling you how to change a wheel on it!!
please give me some evidence of why the car is not a smart please - 13 pages and people are still talking like 12 year olds ... "my dad's got a ferrari and your dad's car is rubbish"

vx220 is a vauxhall (it says so on the grill)
...but by your reckoning (a forfour isn't a smart - its a mitsubishi) then the vx220 should be a lotus shouldn't it (lotus chassis and geometry set up)
Q - is the forfour a smart car?? if not, for what reason (in 1 sentence)

No, quite frankly, I can't! I don't see it as antagonising, it's bit of a debate as to whether anyone considers cars that share the same platform to be more of the parent than the child.
This reminds me of a kid I had once, if he was 'out' of a game we played, he'd complain he was being bullied
Incidentally, I used to want a forfour, more so I could aim to complete the set. Until I got some experience of one and realised I'd be wasting my time, I didn't particularly enjoy the handling, and as I said, I didn't see the point in the dimensions of it.

The ForFour is a badge engineered Colt and frankly no one really cares anymore. It is like the Proton saloon was to the Mitsubishi Galant.
The highlight of the ForFour's short existence was it's appearance on Top Gear several years ago.

But its not badge engineering, like an Aygo/C1/107 or Miitsubishi Outlander/C-Crosser/4007 are. Its a completely different bodyshell, in the same way that a Skoda Octavia, Golf, Leon and A3 are all different cars based a similar set of components under the body work.Originally posted by westcoaster View Post
