lol as I rarely use the rears seats in my Mini now that I am single again, the smart is on my shopping list of new cars when the time comes you will pleased to note!

Ditto. And if smart get it right and provide for those just out growing their fortwos, but don't want or need the full 4 door 5 seat option, by offering a 2 + 2, then it might stop the exodus to mini land!
Rear seats for occasional adult trips and suitable for kids would provide luggage flexibility when not used as seating.

but it really shouldn't matter where the engine is or if they save weight by only using 3 bolts per wheel :censor:

i think in the eyes of fortwo owners, only the fortwo (450) will ever be a smart and its such a good job that these people have no say in how any companies are run

i used to adore my fortwo and miss it but i wouldn't trade my forfour BRAB in for one now as the BRAB is beyond awesome and was giving an Evo V a good run for its money the other day

Sorry guys & gals but i've decided to leave this forum for good ..

the one thing that annoys me is that this is meant to be a forum for ALL cars with a smart badge on & a MINORITY of people on here think we dont own a smart so as they obviously dont want us *non pure smart* owners on here i'm leaving ..
there are other smart forums for all which are alot friendlier and accomodating to us forfour owners so i'll just log on there

Well I think it's a perfectly logical reason, if the car has extra seats but lacks the additional accommodation required for those additional passengers (like personal space and a somewhere to put luggage) IMO it fails to have any appeal over the fortwo.

No-one's trying to alienate anyone, merely discussing the cars some have happened to buy. If you read on the lines, as opposed to attempting to find some message between them, you might not take it so personally...

8. Like forfour owners, I am entitled to my opinion ... it may be wrong, it may be right, at least my opinions are based on fact not blind devotion to what is essentially just a car! Unreasoned rants, whether by fortwo, roadster or forfour owners, are just that. Come on and defend your choice of car if you want to, convince the unbelievers why the forfour is a decent car - alternatively, go off in a big cream puff. You decide!

have you ever been anywhere near a forfour?? it has 4 seats and can seat 4 adults easy, bags of room, is as spacious as a fortwo, has a boot of reasonable size and i can get my buggy in and 2 adults and shopping!!

4) a niche is ok but there must be demand - there wasn't for the roadster

actually, the roadster was a success - with 43000 built in just over two years. Smart expected to build 12,000 in total in that period, hence the miniscule part of the factory assigned to it. The roadster was, in the UK, a riproaring success with over 7,000 finding new homes here - which compares with a smidgin over 8,000 forfours.

For the forfour to work, it had to sell 150,000 or more a year - a bit like the fortwo. Car manufacture works in two ways - economies of scale, hence why many cars over model ranges and indeed manufacturers share platforms, components and trims, or being in a niche market where demand can outstrip supply. In the case of the roadster, the only thing stopping it being a huge success in the markets it was sold in was the warranty claims due to an inherent bad design (the dreaded leaks - which I hasten to add my car suffers very little from), but for the forfour it was economy of scale that saw it be a failure. Companies like Hyundai and Kia were selling tens of thousands more cars in Britain than smart sold of the forfour.

In the smart forfour's case, it was a huge success in certain markets (the Dutch one, for example) - but those sales did not translate worldwide, whereas the roadster was successful in almost every market it sold in until the warranty claims started piling up.

I actually disagree with a lot of what Ms Poo says about the forfour - it provided a 'different' alternative to a lot of Japanese, Korean and European boxes on wheels and was actually a good car - it had its faults, but being a good car was not one of them. Using the lounge seating and the benefits of the movable rear seat, it was a flexible alternative to a Polo, a Hyundai I10 or similar. Anyway, I could have coped as a three person family with one, even when my daughter needed pram and baby stuff - it was the other stuff I use a car for that it was useless at.

I am LadyV, my fiance and I own a Black and White ForFour 1.1 Pulse and a 1.1 Black Edition.

I am not here to "Cause trouble" nor have I done so, I have merely stuck up for my friends that are being treated like the kid without the "best toy" because that's all it is...playground talk...we have this car and you don't and we're so much better than you ner ner ner ner ner!

Yes it's true, I have come from another forum, and so what? Don't you want new members with (any) Smart car to join, or is this merely a clique?

Just to clarify- I have no problem with any Smart Car- I adore the ForTwo, ForFour, Roadster and Crossblade but I do have a problem with threatening posts and unnecessary rude comments to my friends just because they are passionate about their cars, just like everyone else on here. I also would hate to think that just because people own a ForFour that they can be subject to threatening text as I mentioned in my last post.

By all means if Admin feel that I should be "banned" or my account deleted, fair play- I really couldn't care less to be honest, I have come on here and given my opinion, what you choose to take on board is up to you.
I started my account in the past with intention to enjoy this forum, to talk about my car and post up any useful and helpful advice, however after reading some of the comments on here from other members and the "us against you" attitude I don't think I'll bother- I honestly expected more from a Smart Forum, I really did.

No doubt someone on the For4 forum brought this thread to your attention so you decided to give your 2 pence worth, that's fine but please don't come shouting the odds on what had become an informed and reasonable debate, it's completely unnecessary. You are more than welcome to post here being a SMART owner but there's no need to be agressive or insulting to other members
