I remember earlier than that when RHD For2s were dubbed not-smart!

Anyway, ancient history. Let's see where smart take their model range from here, developing from the fortwo ethos.

Had better be rear engined RWD though. Or I'd be off looking at that smallish budget priced RWD Toyota are threatening to produce. The one that could be a reincarnation of the Mk1 Escort for the 21st century. Fun fun fun!!

does it fookin matter if the trid is painted on ? i could say the same about the fortwo and the roadster, there trid's are painted on!
if the forfour is a rebadged colt, then why, when they are stood side by side, do they not look the same (they dont have the same shape)!
yes they may be the same car underneath but it does not make the forfour a colt! the nissan micra shares the same kit as the the renault clio. so on that basis the micra isnt 'a real micra' because it had the same bits as the clio!
is the VW Polo an expensive Skoda Fabia or is the Polo a cheap Audi A1?

At the time, Merc owned a large share of Mitsubishi, so it made economic sense for the two companies to work together and make a car.

I do think that they should still have made a 4 seat version of the fortwo as they are planning to do, but I also think that the forfour could have fitted perfectly above it.

always thought that would have been better as a smart rather than a merc, or at least they should have done a smart version

                  1 remove merc badge
                  2 fit smart badge
After all smart owners do the reverse to the smart
If they 'made' a smart version of the A class, people would just say that's an A class under it all, and merc would also be ruining the smart brand in making such a version, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot, gotta keep the brands apart

I think you'll find it was DC that owned part of Mitsu not Merc.............

This thread just proves to me i'm right not to come on here very often - why should we have to endure being made to feel some kind of inferiority just cos our cars were a collaboration with Mitszi . its still a SMART
I'm sorry but i'm thankful of that fact with the highly reliable engines we have instead of the shite smart version in the fortwo's needing rebuilds at only 50k miles i keep reading about on smart forums .
Maybe your only doing it cos you know your fortwo's are inferior to ours & the only way of lessening the blow of that fact is by trying to knock ours

I only came on here today to see what shite had been written about our cars again on here ..

see you the next time .which i know will be soon

the comic company?? lol I don't see that it matters to my point. They were all interconnected at the time when the forfour was in the making

It's only a car, you know and one of many that filled its niche. it was too dear, too small, too niche, with no brand identity in its marketplace and too late, hence why it didn't sell. It wasn't the best car in its class, not by a long shot. Not the fastest, not the biggest, not the roomiest, not the safest, not the cheapest. It may have had a chance of success if Mercedes had priced it competitively like Mitsubishi had done with the Colt.

Now, I will repeat what I said about forfours - I like them but I wouldn't have paid the price for one as it was a compromise - neither one thing nor the other, and it did not satisfy my needs. IMHO, it is still a rebodied Mitsubishi with none of the real attributes of the fortwo and roadster, both of which filled a niche that hadn't been filled since the 1960s and the demise of the microcars. And I say this as a fan of the forfour.

If you want to hear my rant about roadsters and fortwos, I can do that too!

                            do tell, do tell!

the fortwo+2 is a stretched fortwo with 2 extra seats, and they will sharge a premium for it. its the same with the (megane) senic and the (focus) c-max. they only have 5 seats like there hatchback couter parts but cost much more and for what?
there is no point in calling the fortwo+2, the fortwo+2 as it is a forfour, doesnt matter what it looks like. and anyway the next gen smart could be a collaboration with renault. will the fortwo still be the fortwo then if it goes ahead with renault?

its not if, it has been confirmed. the fortwo+2 will be build by renault in the factory that will also built the next twingo as they will be the same car underneath. Then all this arguement will begin again!
