  • Roadster - Fixing Door Catches

After getting locked in my Roadster I took my car to smartsRus.
They identified the *common* problem of a dropped locking pin
(it wiggles up and then the latch stops working )

Anyway smartsRus kindly sorted it out for me AND let me take these pictures....Cheers Guys!

Fixing a "dropped pin" on a Roadster Door Lock
    1) Remove door handle cover & uncrew the handle from the door card

    2) From the top left corner prise away the door card until you can get to the locking mechanism.
Don't prise the whole door card off it's a bugger to get back in!

    3) CHECK that it is the swivel pin causing the problem (it it is the pins top will be visible). If it is then unhook the door cable.

    4) Make sure the door pin is lined up with the hole at the bottom and move it down with pliers.

5)Using a screwdriver push the top of the pin down until its almost flush.

Finally check the door mechanism works, re-connect the door cable and pop the door card & handle back in place..

you dont even have to take the handle off or door card off, just pull open the handle and you can get a pair of needle nose pliers in to grip the pin and relocate it. Took me all of about 2 minutes to fix mine when i got locked in!

Depends how far up it's wiggled -(mine was out of the end)

You can lever them off (carefully) but the lugs sometimes break
so worth having a spare set

Re: Roadster - Fixing Door Catches

Just fixed mine using this guide - thanks.

                It's worth mentioning:
                - to remove the door card, start at the bottom; there are 'hooks' that can be pushed back with a flat screwdriver - simply feel for points of resistance, and there push up with the screwdriver. Once the bottom is unhooked, the card can come down from the top. It's anchored on the (left/right) side near the external handle - pop those clips and they don't go back on. At least, I haven't.
                - the cable for the door; once you've reattached it to the handle, don't forget that the cable sheath has to be anchored too - there is a cutout/recess for it, you'll see
                - the plastic trim is horribly soft and easily marked; be careful...

well..that didn't work, and has made the problem worse, and now I can't get the door card back on either!!

Thanks for posting this. I managed to fix my door today and saved myself the £85 quoted by Mercedes to do it!
