  • 'A' Service Cost?

I have been told by smart Croydon that my first service (1 year, 2500 miles on the clock) will cost £179. This seems rather steep to me. :silvertri

Is there any dealership close to Bromley that costs less?

I will double check that price... I'd been chatting with the receptionist, a lovely lady by the way, as I may have distracted her with my youthful looks and friendly banter

    Re: 'A' Service Cost?

I have just paid £249 for a 'B' service and was amazed at how little is done on it. How do they justify 2 hours labour and £36 for oil???????
    Back on topic:
Try Chequered Flag I only paid £99 for my 'A' service last year. It is a bit of a journey for me which is why I bit the bullet this year and went to the stealership.

The first A-service is different from a normal A-service.
It involves checking/retightening a number of bolts in the suspension and elsewhere. This takes more time, hence a higer price.

        Thanks Bjorn.

I Have looked at the list of things done at an A service and it seems quite extensive, but how long it takes to check all those things is another matter...

Have got my Fortwo booked in for it's first service (A) next week - quoted £120 by smart Oxford

It''s being done on a while-you-wait basis so will get my money's worth of freebie Merc coffee and biscuits

I think merc/smart are quite reasonable when compared to many of the smart independants!

I need to use them for my extended warranty on my forfour but at the prices they charge, i think I willkeep going back! My last mot cost £37 at merc and I got the car valleted and had free tea/coffee/coke/cakes/crisps for the 2 hours I was there!!

Plus I sat in all the mercs in the showroom messing with the satnavs etc!!

I thought you were rejecting the car? Certainly at the very least i'd be wanting free servicing from them!

I met with the dealership yesterday, and we had a very productive talk, and we have agreed on a mutually agreeable course of action. So things are being done, and I am content with the outcome.

Together we are running some tests, and I'm sure that in a few weeks the results will help determine the cause of the problems.

Why do people buy new cars and then moan about the servicing costs?

Surely you must have calculated the servicing costs for the period you intend to keep the car?

You lose more per month in depreciation alone!

Buy an old barge* -I get 45mpg, have five seats, all the toys and my car is worth the same at the end of the year as it was at the start!

you could always ask for a bogo basic service with out the flushes and additives. that way you get the oil and filter changed only and you dont get screen wash, fuel additive*, engine flush* etc. you levels will be topped up (screen wash and coolent) with water.

                          *if the dealer uses them

We moan about servicing costs because there's not many valid reasons why the dealer in Cardiff can do it £75 cheaper than the dealer in Bristol. OK London might be different, higher overheads etc.

Oh and because when I bought this car, my local dealer did an A service for £99!!

But if you can't be bothered to shop around, I don't really think you're in a position to complain.

Another dealership may do it cheaper, but I'd suggest that a dealership charging £99 for a first service is making a loss on it as a "special". Parts and fluids alone will be over half that - two hours labour, even at most independent garages is likely to be more than £99 as well.
