  • Cheap Tuning!

    Hi Guys

I was just looking at evilution site and there are some unfinished tests they started and cant see updates on them. Big P will know though!:p

i have a roady brabus and was reading about the following!
    1) Forge silicone TIK ( http://www.evilution.co.uk/549 )
    q) ass this is a silicone pipe not a hard plastic one does it flex underpressure? is there an aloy one made by anyone?

    2) Vauxhall/Opel Z10XEP,Z12XEP or a Z14XEP Larger Throttle Body.
    q) i see this is massive in comparison, but did it make alot of difference?
    q) did the ECU cope with the extra air and get the mix right?
    q) can the brabus injectors add enough fuel to benifit from it?

    3)Janspeed Stainless steel Intercooler Pipes
    q)are there an aloy version?
q)if i get the above throttle body will these pipes fit or are custom ones required?

these parts seem like nice cheap easy mods.. but without a remap can the ECU make use of this extra? i guess that this is all freeing up air flow so will increase responce torque and bhp also increase spooling the tubby.

idea's and info would be help full if anyone has gone down this route with any of the above and had problems or dyno results?

ps i will be taking out the rubish blanking plates in the exhaust pipes!

ask rob at S2smart. i asked him about my old city coupe when it was mapped but performed like a standard one. couldnt do much to it as it was written off soon after

Forge silicon pipes...both for the TIK & intercooler should work fine and are readily available...lots of people use them!

I think if you go along the route of changing throttle bodies etc, without knowing exactly what you are doing you will have more chance of making the car WORSE rather than better!!...............I would agree with Lalli....if you want to do something like this, go talk to Rob first....and if he thinks it will work then carry on.....but I would imagine it would also require a complete custom re map as well to make it all work properly!

Change the pipes and get a remap....get Rob/Tony at S2Smarts to set it up properly on the dyno and you should be looking at about 120+ bhp....then think if you want more!!

I have a smart roadster and i have fitted the larger throttle body with my spacer onto the car at present it is running like a dream and have had no issues to report. It does appear to be quicker but i suppose the only small down side is its slightly more noisy as you can hear the turbo spool up.My partner has driven the car and she feels its quicker also . If you are not prepared to try these mods irrespective of some of the posts you read you will never know. All i can advise is to try it and see i have rebuilt numerous smarts for my own use my partners is heavily modified and she does around 1500 miles a month up and down the motorway and has never had a single issue. The key to keeping these cars sweet is regular servicing!

Thing to keeping these cars sweet is actually using them (as well as servicing), not washing and polishing them to death.......................

If you were the guy who emailed me about these earlier then you already know. If you weren't.....step away from the silly injectors unless you want uncontrollable overfuelling and reduced power.

Just add, had my XEP on the Roadster for about 9 months with no issues.

Actually I'm the one who emailed you, thanks for the reply. Forgot to add that I had removed the big injectors when the car started leaving little black fart marks on the drive, thought that the kat might be at risk. Have ordered some of the 60kw injectors to try out, and may follow up with the matching turbo if I'm feeling good about it. Still thinking about the TB upgrade. Were you going to sell the spacer on Smartmods? I might be interested.

                  Re: Cheap Tuning!

We are sending the spacer CAD files to our favoured CNC company very soon so hopefully we'll have something to show and sell in a few weeks.

You are gonna have a pig of a job stretching a 4ply hose over 10mm wider than normal.
If it turns out to be beneficial and popular we will get Forge to make a special pipe for it.

It takes alot of patience and pushing power.I used hot water and different size pieces of tube to gradually expand it when it was near enough the correct size i got it three quaters of way onto throttle body inlet i used a scewdriver to ease it over. As i said its a matter of patience a word of warning dont leave pipe too long in hot water it makes the job twice as hard. Good Luck!!

wow I'll say, gave up when I realized I was going to shred the inside of the Forge IC pipe so I used the silicone pipe from my Wiltec BOV which I eventually I got on to the intake (it was only 2ply so wasn't as difficult) so I'll put the TB on tomorrow with the BOV and try it out with the larger (60kw) injectors. Not really looking forward to the pssshhhhhtttt. If it works I might just blank off the pipe until a better solution comes along.

Wish me luck guys and thanks for your help

Just bought one off Khalifa and got the adaptor already, will try and fit it as soon as I get it.
Not looking forward to fitting the Forge i/c pipe over the throttle body.
