    Re: smart of Lakeside

I can't stand Smart of Lakeside, find them so rude and unhelpful!!

Now I'll go anywhere else virtually, Hertford (always friendly), Dartford (really good)...just not there!!! :censor:

Smart at Tonbridge (fairly new to Smart but an established Merc dealer) seem friendly and trying at the moment. Saying that I'm probably taking mine to Chequered Flag to be serviced! But for parts I want as extras Tonbridge are fast, efficient, and friendly.

Is it just me that finds Smart dealers seem to treat you as second class because you're not buying a £30,000+ Mercedes? That's the perception I have anyway. Little things do it, like the Merc buyer gets is coffee in a china cup, me the Smart customer, got mine in a plastic disposable one! I won't say which dealer did that - it may not have been intentional!

Beware, Smart of Tonbridge are the same chain as Smart of Maidstone...

If they take after Smart of Maidstone then i'd steer clear!

They damaged my roadie, then blatently refused to accept liability for it! :censor:

As a side note, I spoke to a really nice guy at Dutton Forshaw (the franchise company), and now i'm more than happy!

          WHAT!
there must be 2 smart Dartfords then because you can't be talking about the one I go to (used to).

Ian - don't be fooled, even the big expensive merc owners get the same treatment we do, they just get charged more for it.

I had a run in with smart of Lakeside when I bought my roadie - to cut a long story short (ish), they said it was going to be ready for me to pick up on the Saturday, when they took it in to the garage on the Friday (!) they found a load of stuff that needed doing to it (I had to phone THEM to find out what was going on each time because they NEVER phoned me) which took another week, and then when I was just about to set off the following week to pick it up I got a phone call to say that they'd forgotten to tax it, but that they would have to go to the DVLA office in Chelmsford on the Monday to do it.:censor:

I shouted, a lot, told them to shove it and went to smart of Lincoln, who are currently on about 27 out of 10 for the whole "sales and after care" malarkey. Couldn't recommend them higher.

I was dealing with John @ Dartford, and have to hand it to him, he was really so so good! My car was going there because the doors kept coming open/off (!!!!!) as I drove, and by my 3rd visit there in 2 weeks, I had people at the doors meeting and greeting me, cup of tea waiting everything

                  Re: smart of Lakeside

I have something positive to say about Lakeside. They're closing. Joking!!! Here's my latest:

During the course of fixing the leaks, they managed to scratch the drivers side roof bar. Needless to say I wasn't impressed. I didn't notice until the next day, and left it a further couple more days before informing them, due to a bust schedule. Anyway the leak repair wasn't perfect so when I took it back to have this done they said they'd fix the scratch. They didn't so I had to book it in again, got it back, scratch was almost fixed, but they missed a small bit. So I pointed it out and said I wanted it sorting, anyway usual stuff of them not calling and having to chase them, eventually I end up talking to Michael Curtis, the assistant manager in the service dept. He said that they would order me a new roof bar. It has taken a further two weeks for it to arrive. I'm not silly I know i've had awful service, but the fact that they've replaced the roofbar with a brand new one, imo is very good on their part. Typically however it took ages to get the part when I went to pick it up, and I said to them, don't worry i'll fit it myself.

But I have to say, in the end they've kind of made amends with this gesture.

Oh and rather than phone the 0845 £500 a minute number, their direct # is 01708715420

                        Geoff,

If you just need to get to lakeside, hop on a train to upminster then change and catch a train to chafford hundred, you can walk or get a cab from there. 15 minute walk max.

But I suspect you need to get the motor there, so you'll need to get the bad boy towed, and that I can't help you with i'm afraid mate.

Oh & Miss Smartiepants I always get a china cup for my tea at lakeside, that's because I have to make it myself!!

Sounds like this dealer is linked to the one in Blackpool a total waste of time.
Why is it some dealers want to deal with us and some dont.
Went to the dealer in M/cr excellent service.:silvertri
Shop around is the best idea.

                            Re: smart of Lakeside

I phoned Lakeside today as my air-con has stopped working
I'm booked in on the 10th May which quite honestly I'm dreading but seeing that my car isn't even a year old yet I best get it sorted while it's under warranty.

It's official that Charlie has left already.....But I liked him so I'm quite upset about hearing that today

Anyone got any ideas why my air-con has stopped working???

It could be as simple as a fuse blown. Roadster fuses tend to be under-sized, don't know about fortwo's. Good luck with Lakeside.
