I have just printed out the route and will make copies for those who would like
373 miles - 600 km
6 hours 35 minutes
2 "comfort" stops at rest areas ( morning and sfternoon) on the way and a stop for lunch
I have to say that toll roads would be much, much easier and quicker. It's not like it is going to be expensive and for us the cost of the tolls is preferable to a very long, tiring drive along difficult roads. We're not bothered about the expense as much as having a route that is practical and efficient.
It's a long way, and I think I speak for most of us when I say it should be via toll routes, without the nonsense and debate and distractions. This is not going to be a cheap holiday by anyone's standards, and it seems a bit fatuous to have a debate over toll fees.
well, I have no problem on what route anyone wants to take to be honest. I have put together a route which I will be following ( as far as I can) and it includes stops for a break in the morning and in the afternoon as well as a decent stop for lunch at a little Brasserie near amiens. I wondered if it should be published so that others could perhaps join in at these "waypoints" if they would like to, but frankly, it is not a "biggy" one way or the other. i am trying to put it into a Roadbook but that might or might not happen - it all depends on what time i have available.
This is the route - taken from the French website...
I made a route from Normandy (The Giboudiere 50720) to Antwerp Best Western Hotel (but most others are quite close by)
Leave the house in 0830
191 km (120 miles) - about 2 hours 16 minutes arrive at The Manor Farm 27310 Bosgouet, for a coffee break of 15 minutes 1045 - 1100
Then set off again aiming to stop for lunch at 132 km (82 miles)- about 1 hour 27 minutes later at Le Bonne Acceuil, 80710 Quevauvillers Thiers. An hour and a half there for lunch? 1230 - 1400
Then travel another 139 kilometers ( 85 miles)- about 1 hour 28 minutes later before a rest stop on A1/E19, 1530 - 1545
Arrive in Antwerp after another 139 ( 85 miles)km - about 1 hour 27 minutes 1715
This gives a total of 600 km, ( 370 miles) 6 hours 38 minutes not including stops for coffee and lunch etc.. and we should arrive in Antwerp early evening.
Apart from a slight detour to the village for lunch - roadside parking, this is all main roads/autoroutes with some tolls
I have a detailed route plan with roads, turns etc
been busy today: Got the menu sort of sorted for the meal on 23rd - Four courses with local cidre for around 17€
I am reckoning on there being 17. Are any of us veggies i wonder
Pretty sure it is the E17 so we can go in up the west side of Antwerp and then just take the tunnel under the river which saves having to go through town.
hi is that 5 people or restrunts?
even still it sounds like a great adventure do you ever take these pop out tents that i have heard alot about thay seem really fast and easy to rig up,
also what kind of camping stuff do you take with you thats practical for a smart car?
No, that is the number of French joining us at the restaurant - total is now 7 I think in addition to the UK lot.
As to tents it is pretty easy to take enough gear even with 2 in the cars. Only need tents and sleeping stuff, no need for cookers etc.
