Re: Tuning my 450 in steps

Standard Roadster rear springs on a 450 results in 20% lower material stress. This may just be sufficient to bring stresses below threshold of fatigue limit, hence an infinite life of these rear springs when fitted on a 450.

Still here, thanks for all the tips so far.

Because I had a turbo failure and clutch also needed some love, I've bought GT20 turbo and Bonalume clutch + pipes from Forge and a DV as well. Well see if it made any difference so far

          GT20 is way too big.

          Cheers!

It'll be running low boost right now, and later I'll replace it with BIG's Monster unit (whatever model that is).

Low boost you will certainly have when it finally starts making some, it'll be a lag fest for sure!

So you are going to make/buy an exhaust manifold to fit a turbo that is no good and custom plumb the water and oil lines for the car so you can throw it all away later??? Why not just leave the original on, or if it's knackered swap it for a (cheap) rebuilt at the dealer? Some have claimed some success with GT15 series turbos (I'm skeptical without other mods).

              Cheers!

Well I know how it sounds, but I've paid almost nothing for the turbo and the old one died. And I already have Brabus exhaust.

I've got a different question - should I go for a charge cooler system or a bigger performance intercooler ? I was thinking about building a custom charge cooler like this one : http://www.evilution.co.uk/engine/re...rge_cooler.htm

                  The current progress is :
                  - forge pipes
                  - forge DV
                  - Bonalume clutch
                  - K&N 57i filter + airscoop
                  - drilled front discs (don't remember the company)

I already have the charge cooler tank, pump and hoses so now looking for a suitable radiator and someone who'll fit it

                  Next steps in order:
                  - charge cooler with custom front mounted radiator
                  - optigear actuator
                  - enhanced part load breather
                  - s-mann rear mounted 10row oil cooler and spin-on oil filter adapter (or front mounted from BIG, depending on the free space)
                  - aluminum oil sump
                  - if there will be enough free space, add fan on main radiator
                  - throw away K&N filter and add Pipercross Viper induction kit (this removes the necessity of doing the flying saucer mod later on)

                  Then:
                  ? BIG Quik Box ?
                  - FSE fuel pressure regulator
                  - BSM engine mounts
                  - aluminum pulley wheels
                  - polurythane bushes
                  - strenghtened sfahts and ball joints
                  - titanium exhaust from BIG

Next 4 will have to come together I guess :
                  - Forged rods, pistons, crankshaft, camshaft and ported head from BIG
                  - titanium valves & springs (BIG)
                  - Biggest turbo from BIG
                  - strengthened manifold (not sure if the one in BIG's turbos is custom or not but I saw one from Bonalume)
                  - Brabus injectors
                  - engine map from BIG

                  Finally
                  - new suspension (haven't decided if I'll do a swap from Brabus, or build a custom one)
                  - custom carbon Brabus wide arches
                  - brabus front fenders
                  - 16+17 wheels and new front brakes + disc conversion on the back

                  Finishing work:
                  - cleaning up engine bay, painting engine
                  - some work on interior, possibly exchange plastic parts with carbon
                  - new lighter seats
                  - lightweight battery from BIG
                  - possible gearbox swap
                  - possibly another engine mapping because of weight dropping, we'll see

So this is the plan for the next 12 months. I think I haven't missed anything.

When your goning to swap the gearbox in your Fortwo, for a roadster gearbox (81bhp or 101bhp) .
you need also swap the ECU and the SAM.

Why induce MORE heat to the oil. Use a FRONT mount oil cooler kit.

Ian but will both of them fit up front ? I was thinking about either a dedicated radiator (like http://www.chargecooler.co.uk/index....roducts_id=214) or a Mocal oil cooler. I'm worried about not letting enough air to pass to main radiator with two radiators fitted in front of it. Do you think it'd be possible to place a fan over there or there's not enough space ?

Just wondering if anyone tried switching their fuel pressure regulator to the uprated one (http://www.fq101.co.uk/how-to-guides...regulator.html) ? I wonder if I should go for this mod or get a FSE part.

I've also found some parts on smartkits website, but no idea if they may come in handy or not (because they may already come with BIG's turbo):
                          - power pop (http://www.smartkits.net/catalog/pro...roducts_id=268) - what the hell is this thing anyway ?
                          - turbo pressure regulator (http://www.smartkits.net/catalog/pro...roducts_id=269)
                          - air suction manifolds (http://www.smartkits.net/catalog/pro...roducts_id=270) : is this the part that goes in the airbox ?
                          - waste gate (http://www.smartkits.net/catalog/pro...roducts_id=273)

I think I will also use a different throttle body as suggested by Evilution.

ALL of the above is Bonalume.

"I think I will also use a different throttle body as suggested by Evilution"....that's wrong.

                            It was my idea !

Right, I've missed the first sentence of the article. So I assume that replacing throttle body actually makes some difference ? What about those parts that I've listed. I know it's Bonalume, and I know that you're not a big fan of their products (at least clutches) but does it make any sense getting them, considering I well get a turbo unit from you ?

Lastly do you think that a chargecooler radiator will fit aside your oilcooler set ? I'm worried about not letting enough air to pass to the main radiator and was hoping to have enough space to fit a fan, but now that I look at the front of my car I don't think this will be possible.
