  • Smart roadster ABS problem

hello everybody can someone tell me please how can i fix a problem with abs on my car?
The problem is when i.m nearly stopping the abs start working without any reason pushing the brake paddle back and the steering wheel tunrs a bit on the left hand side. I say what happens i don't know now if the steering has something to do with this or is another problem but it happening only when i'm breaking...soemtimes doesn't let me to brake and i have to use a lot but a lot of force to press the brake to stop. Till i wil solve this problem if someone know what code has the abs fuse to take it out and to use the normal brake? this if it's the fuse for abs only and not let's say abs+esp or whatever...what can i say in + is that on the computer or obd or what ever is the neme of that thing doesn.t show any error or fault this is what the dealer told me when i went for a check. I was with him when he mad the check but i don't know to read that thing. After an wheel alignment the abs wasn't pushing so hard the peddle it was verry soft but after one day a few houres of use it turned back the same and it makes a qite loud noise like 2 jagged pieces of metal one staying the other one rotating trying to spin the other one

Check the reluctor rings on your drive shafts. They rust & then split which causes the ABS to get in a fluster

yes i know about that...that was the first thing i did they are in good condition they don.t have not even rusted too much...maybe the previous oner change them few months ago

Any mismatch (size, pressure) can cause the same symptoms as split ABS rings.
Why was the wheel alignment done? Was there some problem?

No there wasn.t any problem i just did it because i don.t know what the other owner did with the car so i did the alignment change the oil the filters and general service + vrt to be sure everything it.s ok. I made olso the preassure for the tires today it had a big diference between the preassure from tire to tire but after fixing this it is the same thing

I tried to read and make some sense of that post.... I gave up.

For as far as I did get, I'd suggest reluctor rings, but as you reckon you checked these....?

Rereading it - I'm inclined to suspect discs so corroded as to be felt via the pedal. Not ABS pulsing but discs with surfaces that would make the moon appear smooth by comparison.

The discs are ok the problem is with the abs because i know the car how was the brake when it was good. When i press it at bigger speed it.s everything ok. When i press it hard at bigger speed the abs works normal. When i press the brake normal to stoop let.s say because i.m approaching an red traffic light the abs start working like i.m hard breaking at 60 km/h sometimes pushing back the brake peddal so much that doesnt let me stop. I have to take the leg off the brake and press it again.

What about the speed sensors? What i was reading on internet each wheel has a speed sensor used by the esp but olso the abs are using the sensors to see if the wheel is locked or no. Because they are in a bad environment and because they are dirty they can make this malfunction? If they were broken i think they should appear on obd no?

What i didn.t checked are the brake pads. Can they have something to do with this?

The speed sensors are rarely a problem and yes, ABS and ESP both read from them. I think, though I'm not certain, that sensor failure would show on the diagnostics.

Have you checked the wheels/tyres for mismatch? I had my ABS go to hell merely by renewing rear tyres. Why was the car on an alignment jig?

What i understud from someone the mismatch is the tire preassure and yes i made it today...it was usless. I went to make the the alignment just to know everything it.s ok with the care i bought the car second hand from an guy and i don.t know what he did with the car before so that was the reason. The tires on the car are new both front and rear how did you fix the problem after you changed the tires?

Just ask what you need to know and i will tell you. I don.t know what can cause my abs to go crazy...

Disconnected the battery for 30mins. On reconnecting it the ECU relearns the new tyre size.

So all i have to do is to disconnect the battery and then to reconnect it after 30 min? That thing that you said it will read the tyre size by it.s own? i don.t need to go at a service to do something with the computer to adjust tings there or something?

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery (and when reconnecting get a quick clean reconnection) and if all that is wrong is a slight tyre mismatch then it will probably be cured. It can only cope with slight variations in size though.
What size of tyres are fitted?
